This/these
They are used to refer to things/peaple that are near the speaker. Moreover, this is used for singular and these for plural.

These
Affirmative: These are my pens.

That/those
They are used to refer to things/people that are far from the speaker. Furthermore, that is used for singular and those for plural.
Example:
That
Affirmative: That is my book.
Negative: That is not my book.
Interrogative: Is that my book?
Those
Affirmative: Those are my books.
Negative: Those are not my books.
